Families Together: Stand As One with Refugees

Youth leadership and learning resources for 11 – 16 year-olds

Take action for refugee rights.

The right to protection from persecution and conflict is established in international law. But many refugees in the UK are often forced to live apart from their families and loved ones.

These resources enable young people to learn about the lives and experiences of refugees in the UK and lead a campaign calling on young people to write persuasive messages to their MP.

  • Use personal case studies to learn about the legal barriers refugees face in the UK.
  • Teach others and raise awareness of refugee family reunion in your school community.
  • Lead a campaign to send persuasive messages to your MP.
  • Complete an activity leading to the Schools of Sanctuary award

The teachers guide includes useful information about the impact of the war in Ukraine on recent refugee movements, refugee family reunion and the Families Together campaign. There is a source list of up to date information (October 2023). Teachers should read this guide before beginning the campaign with young people.
