Dear {contact_data~firstName} {contact_data~lastName} MP,

I’m getting in touch, as your constituent, to ask you to urgently write to the new Prime Minister to urge him to oppose the development of new oil and gas projects in the North Sea.

 As you will be aware, several projects – including Rosebank and Jackdaw – are currently under consultation and an announcement is expected imminently about whether they can go ahead. Sadly, the new Prime Minister has given strong signals that these polluting projects are likely to be approved.
 
There is no room for new oil and gas on an overheating planet.

As wildfires rage in Suffolk and Scotland, and droughts strike for the second year in Somalia and South Sudan, the impacts of the climate crisis are increasingly clear the world over. For millions, this means losing homes, livelihoods and lives. If approved, Rosebank and Jackdaw's combined lifetime carbon emissions would cause approximately 65,495 excess heat deaths, equivalent to wiping out the entire population of Inverness. The science is stark: there is no room for new oil and gas on an overheating planet. If the UK wants to be a climate leader, and keep its promises on climate, these projects simply cannot go ahead.

 The UK must put people and planet before private profit.
 
 The Prime Minister has said that tackling climate change “isn’t just about protecting the planet – it's a powerful opportunity to build a fairer, greener future for our communities”. He’s right. But we cannot lock ourselves into decades of fossil fuel production and pollution, which will do nothing to bring down UK bills. Instead, the government needs to support workers and communities in the transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewables. This means developing a clear plan to a fairer, greener economy: one that puts reducing inequality as a key aim, ensuring that the costs and benefits of this transition are shared and no-one is left behind.
 
The future of the North Sea is the defining test of this government’s climate credibility.

As my representative, will you write to the Prime Minister to urge him to:

•	Ensure that Rosebank and Jackdaw projects do not get approval, and keep Labour’s manifesto commitment to end new oil and gas licensing in the North Sea.   
•	Send a clear global signal of the UK’s commitment to reducing fossil fuel dependence.  
•	Demand a commitment to support workers and communities in the transition to a fairer, greener future. 
•	Ensure polluters pay their fair share for climate action.
