Oxfam Unwrapped: Valuing Women’s Work
Women’s work deserves to be valued and respected. Across the UK and worldwide, much of the care and labor that women provide is unpaid or underpaid.
That’s why, through our partnerships, we’re focused on transforming the systems that keep women’s contributions undervalued. Under our Valuing Women’s Work programme, we join in solidarity with women globally to ensure their efforts are recognized and fairly rewarded, creating lasting change for communities everywhere.

The funds raised through the gifts in this category will power Oxfam and partners’ efforts to recognize and fairly reward women’s work, transforming systems that keep their contributions undervalued.

Respect and recognition for carers
In the UK, the We Care Campaign, with support from Oxfam, is working with carers to share their stories and advocate for better rights and recognition. Katy Styles, an unpaid carer and founder of the We Care Campaign, champions carers’ rights across the UK. As a former teacher, she leverages her campaigning skills and has received national recognition. Katy and the We Care Campaign won the Digital Campaign Award at the National Campaign Awards in 2020 and the 3rd Sector Creative Arts Award in 2024. By buying this charity gift, you’re helping to amplify carers’ voices and support the fight for their recognition, rights, and dignity in the UK.

Women who lead the way
In Sierra Leone, the Female Pastors Network (FEMINET), a faith-based women’s farming group, and Oxfam are working with communities to recover from floods, improve crop yields, and support women as they empower themselves and drive change. Magdalene Bangura, a leader of FEMINET, has played a key role in helping women in her community, including young women, single parents, widows, and people with disabilities, to gain the skills and confidence needed to grow more food and work towards improving their lives.

Safe education for girls
In Kenya, Merti Integrated Development Program (MID-P) and Oxfam are working together to improve access to period products, enabling girls to stay in school, pursue their education, and break the stigma surrounding menstruation. Previously, menstruation often meant missing school and facing isolation. MID-P and Oxfam have worked together to support Jillo and millions of other girls, providing resources that put choices about their health and wellbeing back in their hands.

Equal rights for girls
In Niger, Oxfam's partner, Say, is working with girls with disabilities, helping them access training, business funding, and support to overcome challenges, pursue their goals, and empower themselves. Zahara is a passionate advocate for the education and inclusion of people with disabilities, and one day she wants to open a school for people with disabilities. Oxfam's partner Say, has worked with Zahara to help her get started.

Financial Independence For Women
In Bangladesh, the Green Jobs program, supported by Oxfam and the Australian NGO Cooperation Program, works with women to create eco-friendly jute products, enabling them to empower themselves and uplift others. Sharmin is an inspiration in her community. After a transformative 15-day green jobs training program, she and other women from marginalized urban areas now create beautiful jute products, including lunch carrier bags, ladies’ bags, handcrafted items, wall-mats, and penholders giving them the opportunity to become financially independent.
Each gift now features unique, beautiful artwork, along with a detailed leaflet explaining its impact, from rebuilding lives after disasters to valuing women’s work and combating climate change.
