REACTION: Government’s investigation into the granting of arms export licences in breach of the Court of Appeal ruling

Reacting to the publication of the government’s investigation into the granting of arms export licences in breach of the Court of Appeal ruling last year, Ruth Tanner, Oxfam’s Head of Humanitarian Campaigns said:
“The UK Government is effectively admitting that its arms licensing system is not fit for purpose.
“The lack of scrutiny over where arms end up has led to UK weapons being used in attacks in Yemen that have killed civilians, destroyed homes, hospitals and markets. This is morally indefensible.
“The process of licensing arms for sale to other countries needs to be immediately overhauled to ensure that the UK is not contributing to violations of international law.”
