In response to today’s announcement by the Prime Minister, Pauline Chetcuti, Head of Policy at Oxfam GB said:
“We welcome the Government’s change of heart – at a time when public finances are under severe pressure, it is companies who should be asked to contribute more, rather than those struggling to pay the bills or feed their families.
“The new Chancellor now needs to urgently set out how the Government will provide additional support for people caught in the cost-of-living crisis at home and those facing famine in other parts of the world. It should not seek to balance the books by cutting help to people who need it the most.”
