“The Prime Minister is right that the UK should be a world leader on climate change.
“It is encouraging to hear his recognition that the poorest people on the planet face the greatest threat from the climate emergency, and that the UK has a special responsibility to lead the way as the first industrialised nation. November’s landmark climate summit will be a critical moment for governments to curb runaway emissions and secure vital funds to help poorer nations adapt to the storms, droughts and floods that are already pushing millions of people deeper into poverty.
“Other nations should follow the UK in targeting net zero carbon emissions, but the Prime Minister’s own plan for achieving this is largely shrouded in secrecy. The UK should lead the charge well before November by revealing how it intends to drastically reduce emissions.”
