Last updated: 25 June 2026

Two powerful earthquakes have struck Venezuela, causing widespread damage and loss of life.

What's happening in Venezuela?

Two major earthquakes have struck Venezuela, leaving at least 235 people dead and 4,300 injured, while hundreds of families remain displaced.

There is severe property damage and disruptions to basic services, with emergency teams deployed to the affected areas.

This disaster is unfolding in an already severe humanitarian crisis: at the start of 2026, an estimated 7.9 million people in the country were already in need of humanitarian assistance.

The current situation could further worsen the living conditions of thousands of people.

Humanitarian efforts in Venezuela

Our partners – local organisations working directly on the ground – are conducting initial assessments to determine the extent of the damage and the most urgent needs of the affected communities.

At Oxfam, we will activate our solidarity mechanisms to support the humanitarian response, in coordination with our local partners and in accordance with our operational capacities.

We reaffirm our commitment to supporting the most affected populations, prioritising relevant, timely, and community-centred actions.

How we spend your donation

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs.

There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.
