Oxfam Bookshop Newark
Known as 'The key to the North', Newark is positioned on the Fosse Way and the Great North Road and is a market town steeped in the history of the English Civil War.
It boasts the UK's only Civil War centre, a dramatic ruined castle on the banks of the river Trent, with a broad hidden heritage of tunnels and cellars and the Queen's Sconce earthworks.
There is a delightful market square with quirky sixteenth century buildings and the magnificent eighteenth century Town Hall. St Mary Magdalene Church's Gothic spire has a hole where a cannonball was fired in the Civil war…lots to see…lots of shops…. good connections.
Come and see us especially for History books, and all other categories of readable material for all ages. We have lots of specialist books and collectibles and we sell Music, Records and CDs/DVDs. We have lovely and humorous cards for every occasion, diaries and other Fair Trade goods. We also sell online.
Our donated stock comes from Newark and the surrounding villages and we will collect from anyone who needs us.
Our volunteer team is from many interesting backgrounds, offering a wealth of knowledge and skills.
We are proud of our shop and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
