Donate to the DEC Venezuela Earthquake Appeal

Last updated: 01 July 2026

Two major earthquakes have struck Venezuela, worsening an already severe humanitarian crisis and leaving communities in need of life-saving support.

We need to coordinate and respond rapidly, so Oxfam has joined with other charities in the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to launch an urgent appeal for funds.

What's happening in Venezuela?

  • Two major earthquakes have struck several states across Venezuela, causing widespread devastation. More than 430 aftershocks have been recorded, with extensive damage to homes, health centres, and critical infrastructure.
  • At least 1,450 people have died and more than 50,000 people are missing. A state of emergency has been declared as search, rescue and relief efforts continue.
  • Essential services have been severely disrupted, leaving communities without reliable access to power, water and healthcare. The priority is to save lives and ensure people can access safe water, shelter, food, health services and protection.
  • Humanitarian needs are increasing rapidly, particularly among the most vulnerable groups. Women, children, older people and people with disabilities face heightened risks as access to basic services becomes more limited.
  • The earthquakes have hit a country already facing a complex humanitarian crisis. Even before the disaster, an estimated 7.9 million people in Venezuela required humanitarian assistance due to high poverty levels and limited access to essential services.

This event compounds an already severe humanitarian crisis.”

How is Oxfam responding to the Venezuela earthquake?

Since the first earthquake struck, Oxfam’s partners on the ground have been working hard to determine what people most urgently need.

This includes access to safe water, sanitation, hygiene supplies, food, psychosocial support, and protection.

What is the DEC?

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is made up of 15 member charities, including Oxfam.

When disaster strikes in a place that doesn't have the capacity to respond, the DEC brings together 15 UK charities to raise funds together fast.

All DEC member charities are experts in humanitarian aid. Each member specialises in different areas of disaster response. Together, united with one voice, the call for help can reach as many people like you as possible.

How we spend your donation

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs.

There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.
