What's happening in Gaza?

The Israeli military has killed over 74,000 Palestinians

At least 74,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military during the conflict, including thousands of children.

The small number of hospitals that are partly operational are struggling to cope with the number of casualties, and are critically low on supplies.

People are struggling to access food, water, medicine and shelter

Famine is spreading in Gaza. There is not enough clean, safe water to drink, and 74% of the population now relies on trucked water.

Starvation is widespread, and children and families are already dying from hunger.

Hundreds of thousands of children are out of school

An estimated 200,000 children remain out of school, in part because of funding shortfalls.

While humanitarian efforts have helped around 495,000 preschool and school-aged children access learning spaces and educational support, many still lack access to education.

Homes have been destroyed

Many people remain living in makeshift tents and shelters which are overcrowded and have no privacy.

Families face flooding and winter weather

Over 13% of Gaza's population is living in unsafe and flood-prone areas. As the rainy and winter seasons approach, families in damaged buildings and makeshift shelters face further risk.

More than 450 displacement sites are at risk of flooding, which is expected to affect over 464,400 people.

Hygiene and health conditions are catastrophic

Over 80% of sanitation infrastructure and services have been severely damaged or destroyed.

The most urgent needs in Gaza include fuel, food, clean water, shelter, cash assistance, medicines and clinical supplies, hygiene items, and mental health support.

Please donate now to help our teams deliver vital aid to people in Gaza.

What is Oxfam doing in Gaza?

Oxfam and our partners continue to deliver life-saving support in Gaza, despite Israel’s systematic obstruction of aid, blocked supplies, and punitive registration requirements.

With your support, more people will access clean water, food, fuel, hygiene supplies, shelter, and psychosocial support.

Your donations have helped Oxfam teams and partners reach more than 1.3 million people with essential support since October 2023. This includes:

  • Emergency food assistance, food parcels, cash and vouchers.
  • Supporting home gardens and small-scale food production.
  • Clean water and sanitation by trucking in water and repairing badly damaged water and wastewater pipelines.
  • First aid kits, hygiene kits, protection kits and cleaning supplies.
  • Blankets, mattresses and sleeping mats to families forced to live in tents.
  • Legal aid and protection against gender-based violence.
  • Professional psychosocial support, especially for children deeply traumatised by the horrors they are enduring. This includes recreational activities to help restore a sense of normality.

In September 2026 alone, Oxfam and partners provided 3,050m³ of water to around 4,000 people and delivered over 1,080 cash transfers to help people meet essential needs.

Oxfam has worked in the occupied Palestinian territory since the 1950s. We have supported communities in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, to tackle the root causes of conflict, build resilience, and protect people’s rights.

Our partners include:

The Palestinian Medical Relief Society, The Cultural & Free Thoughts Association, Palestinian Environmental Friends, Palestine Agricultural Relief Committee, Atfaluna, AISHA Association for Woman and Child Protection, and the Economic and Social Development Centre of Palestine.

They taught us how to build a home garden in these circumstances...I discovered that I can provide part of my food with my own hands.”

Mohammed’s home garden is helping to feed his family and neighbours in Gaza.

What's happening in the West Bank?

In the West Bank, the humanitarian situation has continued to deteriorate. Violence from illegal settlers is at unprecedented levels, increasingly threatening Palestinian communities and livelihoods.

Since the start of 2026, more than 1,600 settler attacks causing casualties and/or property damage have been recorded, affecting 265 Palestinian communities by mid-September.

Critical infrastructure and hundreds of homes have been deliberately destroyed, with forced displacement and demolitions continuing at an alarming rate.

Military operations and movement restrictions have severely disrupted access to essential services. Water insecurity and attacks on critical WASH infrastructure have further increased humanitarian needs.

Oxfam is helping families in need by providing food parcels, including fresh food. We are also working with our partners to support farmers to remain on their land, and to help women and young people access employment opportunities.
