India COVID-19 Appeal
India is in the grip of a second deadly coronavirus wave. People desperate for medical care are struggling to pay for oxygen and medication.
What is Oxfam aiming to do?
Survive today with PPE and medical equipment
Oxfam is working with the government to distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers. We are also helping to fund oxygen cylinders and other equipment for hospitals and health centres.
Prepare for tomorrow food outreach and cash for essentials
Provide food, hygiene kits and handwashing facilities to the poorest and most vulnerable communities. We are also making direct cash transfers to the most vulnerable households so they can buy what they need.
Act to protect Make sure the Covid-19 vaccines are available to everyone, everywhere for free
We are engaging with governments and pharmaceutical companies to remove the barriers to increasing vaccine production and ensure access for everyone. Because no one is safe until we are all safe. #PeoplesVaccine
What's happening in India?
India is experiencing a deadly wave of coronavirus deaths, and hospitals are unable to meet the demand for treatment. Despite getting through the pandemic for a year, the country’s healthcare system has completely collapsed under the crushing weight of the pandemic.
People desperate for medical care are struggling to pay for oxygen and medication. The poorest migrant workers and others who are unable to work, travel, or afford food and health care are suffering the most.
The poorest communities, once again, will bear the brunt. Living in crammed areas without sanitation and using shared toilets and water points, they have no means to follow COVID-19 guidelines.
With fatality numbers rising rapidly it is a race against time to help as many people as possible. That’s why we urgently need your support. Please contribute whatever you can. We need to act, now.

How we use your donations
For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we’ll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.
